My quest to harness the power of Generative AI began on LinkedIn, where I stumbled upon a course titled "How to Research and Write Using Generative AI Tools" by Dave Birss. This marked the beginning of a transformative learning journey, as I delved into the capabilities of AI-driven tools such as ChatGBT, Google Bard, and Microsoft Bing. Among them, ChatGBT, with its ability to generate structured content, particularly caught my attention.

One of the most compelling applications of Generative AI I discovered is its potential to expedite the research process. Having conducted numerous Design Thinking workshops aimed at solving complex challenges, I recognized the importance of research as a foundation for effective design. Integrating research early on offers several benefits that enhance the entire design journey:

  1. Informed Decision-Making: Early research provides insights that guide well-informed design decisions, reducing costly iterations later in the process.

  2. User-Centered Solutions: Research-driven design ensures solutions resonate with users, leading to higher user satisfaction and engagement.

  3. Empathy and Understanding: Research empowers designers to empathize with users, fostering designs that genuinely address real-world needs.

  4. Problem Framing: Research uncovers core issues, preventing teams from solving the wrong problems and guiding them towards impactful solutions.

To accelerate the research process, I decided to explore how Generative AI could aid in creating captivating presentations. I hypothesized that by utilizing Generative AI, I could expedite the research process and generate stunning presentations that capture the essence of the data. This approach not only saves time but also adds a visually appealing layer to the information.

My method involved integrating Generative AI, Google Sheets, and Figma—a trifecta of tools that work seamlessly together. Here's a breakdown of the process:

  1. Creating a Table of Ideas: Using ChatGBT 3.5, I generated a table of monetization ideas. The AI responded with a comprehensive list, neatly organized in a table format.

  2. Data Integration with Google Sheets: I transferred the AI-generated content into Google Sheets. I added an additional column and embedded links to 20 photos from my SquareSpace gallery to provide each idea with a unique visual background.

  3. Google Sheets Sync Plugin: I downloaded the Google Sheets sync plugin, which establishes a connection between Google Sheets and Figma.

  4. Designing a Dynamic Figma Template: I designed a Figma template page with dynamic text fields. By adding hashtags with column names, I mapped data from Google Sheets into Figma.

  5. Importing the Data: Using the Google Sheets Sync plugin, I fetched and synced the data. The Figma presentation automatically populated, each slide unique with its content and background image.

By embracing this process, I was able to expedite the generation of a dynamic presentation that seamlessly merged research data with captivating visuals.
